FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India)
FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India), established in 2008 by the Indian government. It is a regulatory body tasked with licensing and monitoring food safety in the country. The 1.4 billion Indians who consume food products and the organizations involved in the production, handling, and sale of these products are required to comply with the Food Safety Acts and Regulations enforced by FSSAI.
Every food business in the country is shall have a food license. Indicating that the business is verified and registered with the Food Safety Department. All kinds of businesses directly or indirectly related to food products shall have an FSSAI License. Prominently displaying the Food Safety License number. Any food business that does not possess a valid FSSAI License or a Registration does not have permission to process. As stipulated by Section 31 of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Any business that comes in contact with a food product requires a food license. A small startup by an house wife from her home or a large-scale business that involved in exports these each business requires an FSSAI License / Registration regardless of the size and nature of the businesses.
Yet each food business does not require same kind of license.
Expected annual turnover of a business and the nature of the trade & products the business into decides in which License criteria the business comes under.

BASIC FSSAI REGISTRATION
Businesses that expects a yearly turnover below 12 lakhs shall take a basic registration. The basic registrations give the trading businesses a permission to sell their products in local markets and utmost in the district they situate. Furthermore If any business wants to sell their products into multiple districts or spread the trading all over the state then those businesses will no longer have the conclusion of a small business rather they shall apply for an FSSAI State license.
Same as if the yearly turnover goes up from 12 Lakhs the business needs to apply for an FSSAI State License. Furthermore, the yearly turnover and size of a business significantly influence its eligibility to apply for an FSSAI License or FSSAI Registration. Similarly, the nature of the business also plays a crucial role in determining these requirements. Manufacturers or Re-packers and trading categories usually do not fall under FSSAI Basic Registration. Let it be a new recent startup or small business from home, this category falls under FSSAI State License.
