FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India)

FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India), established in 2008 by the Indian government. It is a regulatory body tasked with licensing and monitoring food safety in the country. The 1.4 billion Indians who consume food products and the organizations involved in the production, handling, and sale of these products are required to comply with the Food Safety Acts and Regulations enforced by FSSAI.

Every food business in the country is shall have a food license. Indicating that the business is verified and registered with the Food Safety Department. All kinds of businesses directly or indirectly related to food products shall have an FSSAI License. Prominently displaying the Food Safety License number. Furthermore, any food business that does not possess a valid FSSAI License or a Registration does not have permission to process, as stipulated by Section 31 of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Any business that comes in contact with a food product requires a food license. A small startup by an house wife from her home or a large-scale business that involved in exports these each business requires an FSSAI License / Registration regardless of the size and nature of the businesses.
