FSSAI Registration & Food Safety License in Kerala
FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is a government body established in 2008 by the Indian government to Monitor & License the Food safety & Food businesses in the country. As per the Acts & Law the FSSAI Department make sure the food products that have been served to the 1.4 billion Indians is Edible & Safe.
Every Food business in the country is entitled to have a Food license that showing the business is verified by & Registered in Food safety department, all kinds of businesses that directly or indirectly related to food products are liable to have a FSSAI License that showcase the Food safety License number and any business that do not possess a Valid FSSAI License do not have the permission to process as per the section 31 of food safety and standards act.
Any business that comes in contact with a food product requires food license. Let it be a small startup or an international company they should register they’re business details in FSSAI before startup.
Yet each food business does not require same kind of license. FSSAI have been divided its license criteria’s in to three by the Annual turnover a business expects in a year
- BASIC REGISTRATION (Any Business That Expect a Yearly Turnover Below 12 Lakhs)
- STATE LICENSE (Any business that expect a yearly turnover between 12 Lakhs to 20 Crores)
- CENTRAL LICENSE (Any Business That Expect a Yearly Turnover Above 20 Crores)
BASIC FSSAI REGISTRATION
Businesses that anticipate an annual turnover below 12 lakhs shall take a basic registration. Usually, basic registration is suited for new startups or home-based food businesses & small retailing shops or restaurants. If the turnover goes above 12 lakhs then the applicant shall upgrade they’re Basic registration in to a State License
STATE FSSAI LICENSE
Businesses that come in an average scale is eligible for a state license as they’re turnover should be above 12 lakhs & below 20 crores, State License is mostly suited for Trading businesses such as Distributor or Wholesaler and Manufacturing & Repacking of different food commodities also comes under State License
CENTRAL FSSAI LICENSE
Businesses that have an annual turnover above 20 crores are meant to take a FSSAI Central License also any food business that does E-commerce (Trading through internet) or directly involved in import or export are liable to take a central license regardless of their turnover
